【Hot spot for a walk - Kanda Myojin】

This local shrine is a significantly popular place as a good-luck spot for a "wealth" and "good marriage".

Formal name is "Kanda Jinjya (shrine)". The shrine is a tutelary deity of 108 local cites such as Kanda, Nihonbashi, Akihabara, Otemachi, Marunouchi, former Kanda Market and Tsukiji Fish Markets, and has been enshrined as the Edo shrine. It is well known to see a lot of people from local major enterprises come and pray on a New Year's day every year. Also Kanda festival (matsuri) is very famous as a one of the Edo big three major Shinto festivals and Japan big three festivals.
The shrine is located only 5 minutes walk from JR Ochanomizu station.

Pass Yushima Temple and walk toward the big gateway to the shrine.

Walk uphill then you hit the front gate of Kanda myojin.

■Zuishin-mon (gate)

The big tower gate marks the entrance painted vermillion is called Zuishin-mon The meaning of Zuishin is the kami (God) to guard the shrine building and real estate.

■Daikoku-sama (Ichinomiya) 大黒様(一の宮)

Daikokuten (sama) is the god of cereals , evolved from the Buddhist form of the Indian deity Shiva intertwined with the Shinto god Okuninushi.
Outfits of Daikoku-sama is recognized by its meaning.
・Hat: Humbleness of a lesson "to satisfy with enough and not to envy"
・Two straw rice bags: Honesty of a lesson "not to ask too much and satisfy with two"
・Uchide no kozuchi (golden mallet) : "zuchi= soil" refers to the earth where brings various lives and cultivate the fertile ground.
It is said to be the god of wealth and good luck.

■Ebisu-sama (ni no miya) 恵比寿様(二の宮)

The Ebisu sam is the Japanese god came to be tied together with that of the third birthday of Izanagi and Izanami. He is the god of fishermen, merchants and farmers for their wealth and fertile improvement. The stature of Ebisu-sama stands with a big smile together with a dolphin, a turtle, a balloon-fish and a flying fish. Please do not miss seeing those rare stature.

■Taira no Masakado (san no miya) 平将門(三の宮)

Masakado is a samurai who was from a powerful family and rebelled against the Heian government. But after he was killed by the army sent from the government. After his death, his sprit enshrined in Kanda mojin in the 14th century.Later then he was elevated to the status of the guardian god for Edo Tokyo location.

■Shishi-yama 獅子山

The precious stone work by a famous stone mason named Fujiemon in Edo era. The stoned work was visualized a story which was said that "a parent lion recognizes as a child can climb up from the bottom even his parents threw him away to the bottom of a gorge." * Two bodies of parents upper part and one body in lower part.

People are fond of "Akari-chan", whose name "Akari" implies a "light" of "myo"=Kanda myojin to pray for peace. Formal recognition is the number of Shinba or Miyuki. Shinba has been recognized by a holy horse from the ancient times which the god gets on to come down to the human earth. Akari-chan was a female and born in May 15, 2010 in Saku highlands, Nagano prefecture. Their horse hair called Ashige gradually grow white by aging.

Amanoya was opened in 1846. Since then they have been making various sweets, mainly amazeke (a sweet alcoholic drink made from fermented rice) and the other sweets made from natural rice yeast fermented in their soil basement.
